On Thursday during a press conference, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio bragged about how New York City now has less people in jail since World War II.
"We now have fewer people in our jails than anytime since World War II and we are safer for it and better for it," de Blasio claimed.

The claim from de Blasio that the city is "safer" now that criminals are on the streets is not only misleading, but it's flat out false.
Check out what the New York Times reported:
The latest numbers are stark: 53 people were shot — four fatally — from Friday through Monday, the police said. Over the Fourth of July weekend, the police reported 64 shootings. For the year, as of Sunday, there had been 634 shootings in 2020, compared with 394 in same period in 2019.Here’s what we know about the violence.
The crime is getting so bad that local black leaders are calling on the New York Police Department to bring back their anti-crime unit after it was eliminated last month in response to the Black Lives Matter protests. De Blasio however appears to be too busy painting a "Black Lives Matter" mural in front of Trump Tower.

"Almost 600 plainclothes officers are being transferred to other assignments, including detective work and policing neighborhoods, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said a month ago," reports Yahoo News.
“I think that a total elimination is something we need to reevaluate,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. “Right now, bad guys are saying if you don’t see a blue and white you can do whatever you want.”
New York black activist Tony Herbert also spoke out on the situation.
“The guns keep going off and now we have a 1-year-old and the blood is on the hands of the mayor and the state Legislature,” Herbert said.
Police Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch also spoke out on the situation, slamming New York City leaders for putting their citizens in danger.
“Anti-Crime’s mission was to protect New Yorkers by proactively preventing crime, especially gun violence,” Lynch said in a statement. “Shooting and murders are both climbing steadily upward, but our city leaders have decided that proactive policing isn’t a priority anymore. They chose this strategy. They will have to reckon with the consequences.”
While Democrat leaders are trying to weaken the law enforcement, President Trump continues to promote his Law and Order agenda.
