Coronavirus surge hasn’t led to big setback for manufacturing. Factory orders surge. If you drank the Kool Aid you were one of the few who are afraid to go to work. You know the type. Sit around playing games, eating fried chicken and guzzling the orange drink. Guess what? That's not the majority. Yes the masses are working and spending their hard earned money. Unlike the teachers and government workers who are sitting at home waiting for the end, the Manufacturing section is not.
U.S. factory orders rose 6.2% in June to mark the second increase in a
row, pointing to a steady rebound after widespread shutdowns in the
early stages of the pandemic. Were expecting 4.6%. Even after a spike in coronavirus cases since June, the early evidence
suggests that manufacturers made further strides in July as well. A
survey of industry executives rose to a 15-month high, according to a
closely report produced by the Institute for Supply Management.
New orders for durable goods, big-ticket items meant to last three years
or more, rose 7.6 percent in June, up from the initial report of a 7
percent rise. Orders were up 15 percent in May from the lockdown
depressed level reported in April.
What else were folks buying? Orders for motor vehicles and parts rose 27.8 percent in June, following a 16.3 percent rise in May. Compared with last June, motor vehicles sold slightly more this year than last.
