The Golden State is under lockdown, once again, as California Gov. Gavin Newsom issues a near statewide curfew. On Thursday, the Democrat lawmaker said “in light of an unprecedented and rapid rise in COVID-19,” he’s requiring non-essential work, movement and gatherings to stop between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The order applies to 41 of the state’s 58 counties or more than 94 percent of all state residents. Those counties are currently classified within the state’s “purple tier,” which includes communities where more than 8 percent of COVID tests over the past week have come back positive.
Due to the rise in #COVID19 cases, CA is issuing a limited Stay at Home Order.
Non-essential work and gatherings must stop from 10pm-5am in counties in the purple tier.
This will take effect at 10pm on Saturday and remain for 1 month.
Together–we can flatten the curve again.

While many residents worry about the severity of the order, the states Health and Human Services Secretary, Dr. Mark Ghaly, has said the measures could be worse.
The governor’s decision has received widespread backlash after pictures surfaced of him at a dinner earlier this week violating his own guidelines.
During Thursday’s GOP House briefing, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Newsom lost his credibility with Californians after he violated his own COVID-19 restrictions.
The left has also criticized the move with the front page of the New York Times featuring the story titled “For California’s Governor the Coronavirus Message is Do as I say, Not as I Dine.”
The Golden State lockdown will go into effect this Saturday and will last until December 21.
