A resurfaced video shows Georgia Democrat senatorial candidate Raphael Warnock praising the notorious extremist Louis Farrakhan.
“The Nation of Islam is significant, but it’s members don’t come anywhere near the membership of our churches,” stated the Democrat. “It’s voice has been important.”
The video, which was taken back in 2013, shows Warnock praising Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam as crucial to the development of what he called “black theology.”
Farrakhan is known for his anti-American remarks, including his calls to make America “pay for its sins” as well as his praise of Iran’s Ayatollah regime.
“It was the black Muslims who challenged black preachers and said your promulgating what they called the white man’s religion and that’s a slave religion,” Warnock stated. “You’re telling people to focus on heaven, meanwhile they’re catching hell and so we’ve needed the witness of the Nation of Islam in a real sense to put a fire under us.”
A number of religious scholars have criticized Warnock and Farrakhan for introducing race into spiritual debate, while noting Christianity rejects discrimination based off race or ethnicity.
